You won't believe what I’ve experienced and you didn't miss-read the title of this review. It was true and since I stayed only one night and the service of this cottage very bad I didn't waste my time reporting it and decided just write this on TripAdvisor.
From the road, this cottage seems like the nice and cozy place to crash on cold Parapat night. But It was decisive, just the cover... inside, this cottage really need some work out. May be the owner of this hotel should enter his hotel to the list of the hotel that needed to be fixed by Gordon Ramsay on his show "Hotel Hell"!
It was almost 8 PM at night when I checked in. My friend choose this cottage because our usual hotel in Parapat was fully booked. The moment you enter the lobby, you can feel that you have a cold welcome. The hotel staff was not wearing uniform, wearing flip flop and smelled just smoked a pack of cigarettes or an ashtray. I think the staff in convenience 24-hour store are much better than the staff of this cottage. I stayed in room 101 and the room was gloomy, the bed was not even inviting you to lay down, the blanket was old and worn out, the furniture was far from good. It doesn't have complimentary mineral water and replaced with hot water in the tea pot instead. God knows the source of the water, may be from Lake Toba near the hotel, because it doesn't taste like mineral water.
But the worst thing of all was I found the mouse poop near the bath room door, and even more of them on the floor of bath room. I think that the mice enter the room from the floor drain in the bath room when the room is empty. So every time I didn't use the bath room, I placed one bucket full of water above the floor drain. Ah... yes, they have bucket in the bath room :), no bath tub, just shower from individual gas powered water heater. Oh I forget to mention that the bath room was even gloomier than the room itself!
Little about breakfast. You have two options for breakfast: fried rice or toast, along with coffee or tea. I choose fried rice, and the taste is so usual like the one that's been sold by the street vendor in Indonesia.
I have to write at least one good thing... Well this hotel has two I guess. First, is the view to the Lake Toba, was amazing (but again I think all hotel in Parapat has that). And the last good thing was it has LCD TV in the room with only 5 channels of Indonesian local TV :)
Room Tip: Choose the one which doesn't has mouse poop in your room!
