Must eat durian cuisine

When you stay in hotels around Nongsa and you like durian cuisine, then you must come to this restaurant. They serve many variety of durian cuisine from ice durian itself, or you eat together with sticky rice like what people do in this area. I am durian fanatics, so believe me if I tell you that the taste of durian cuisine in this specific restaurant is the one that you must try! They also serve some other menu like juice and mix fruit ice called “es campur” and “es teler”.

It is the small restaurant located by the street of Jl. Hang Jebat on the left hand side if you drive from Batam direction. You won’t miss it, as long as it is still open. This restaurant is not open for the whole day, because when sold out, they just close for the rest of the day.

The highest point in Batam to enjoy Singapore’s skyline

This restaurant or café is actually just an ordinary cheap-eat restaurant with good grill menu. What make it so special is the location. It is located on Bukit Senyum or Smiley Hill which happens to be the highest point in Batam Island where you can see Singapore skyline from the distance across the strait. The best time to come and enjoying the view is on the clear day or on clear night. At day time you can see Marina Bay Sands very clear, and at night you can see the Singapore’s bathing in lights. This restaurant has an open wall and gets a bit windy sometimes, so you might want to dress accordingly.

I was here to celebrate new-year eve

De Patros Cafe, Harbor Bay, Batam, Indonesia

Overall Rating: GOOD

I was looking the place to celebrate new-year’s eve and had been asking many people in the area sincd morning. My choice was ended in this café because it is located the farthest point of the Harbor Bay. Three of us (me, my wife and my son) were walking from our nearby hotel at 9PM only to find that the seat were nearly full; in fact we were the last group to be able to join the new-year’s celebration in this café, lucky us! We were sitting outside enjoying our drinks and Reggae music and song as their theme that night, waiting the new-year’s count down.

It cost us IDR100K for the ticket each person, and the drinks price was more expensive that night. But we were there to have fun and for the new-year’s count down. Few minutes before new year, we got free three plastic trumpets and fire crackers. After passing the ticking second of the January 1st, they played a non-stop fire works for 15 minutes with several types and colors. We stayed there until 1 AM and I guess, it was very worth it.

I never been to this café except this time, so I can not say anything about the food, or their service and activities on reguler nights.

Where the best view of harbor bay is located

Bay City 88 Restaurant, Harbor Bay, Batam, Indonesia

If you are looking the place to eat along the side of harbor bay, I suggest you pick this restaurant. Because it is located on the furthest part of the restaurant complex, closest to the open sea and of course closest to the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal. The best view of the sea and the ferry terminal is from this restaurant, especially if you seat outdoor (under the massive tent), closet to the sea. I also suggest you claim your seat for dinner half an hour before sunset, because you can enjoy the beautiful sunset and guaranteed you will get the seat. Once pass 7 PM, almost all restaurants in this complex are full, especially on weekends.

The food are actually standard and taste similar to what other restaurants have to offer. They have both Indonesian and international cuisine. Just don’t forget to have ‘gonggong’ and ‘otak-otak’. Two Batam local cuisine that you don’t want to miss.

It’s the best Coto, believe me!

This is the place to eat the local cuisine of South Sulawesi, the Coto. It is the meat stew you eat it with rice cake called ‘ketupat’. The best choice of the menu is that you have ‘everything’ in it or they call it ‘campur’ which means ‘mix’. I have tried some other Coto, and yet this is the best Coto so far, believe me! The place is on the way to Makassar city if you travel from the north, before the Sultan Hasanuddin intl. airport, on the right hand side of the road after crossing the bridge.

The restaurant is very inornate without fancy facilities. Only 1 TV and some electric fans, and that’s why the food are inexpensive. But when you’re eating the best food, you’d forget about everything else, right?

None the less, this restaurant should be in your must visit list.

Cozy place to celebrate something with family

Prime Restaurant, Aston Tropicana Pasteur, Bandung, Indonesia

This restaurant used to belongs to Hotel Aston Premiera. Since the hotel ownership changed, now this restaurant belongs and located in the Holiday Inn Hotel, Bandung which is in Jl. Pasteur, about 1.5 KM from Pasteur toll gate. You should consider this restaurant into one of your list when you are looking for a place to celebrate something like anniversary, birthday, graduation, etc. with your family. Because the place is cozy and not yet many guests which somehow make it more private for you and your family.

The food is also good, though they don’t have that many choices, but those in the menu have good taste. The price though, is consider mid-high since it is belongs to the 4-star hotel.

Nice place to enjoy Medan local cuisine

If you are happened to visit Belawan and looking for a place to have lunch or dinner, this restaurant can be in your list. It’s located by the sea near the Port of Belawan. The building itself is very unpretentious made mostly of wooden poles, wooden floor and open wall, but you can enjoy the view of the sea while you are enjoying your food. This restaurant is famous of Medan local cuisine, especially variety of fish dish. So if you like fish and you like spicy Medan cuisine, this place even more become one of must visit restaurant for you. Try to order several choices of fish dish, you won’t regret it! Pricewise, this restaurant is worth it.

The drawback of this restaurant is because of its setting with open wall building. When Belawan gets too hot (like it usually do), you need to sit under or near the fan, or otherwise you will be sweating like crazy.

Regular meat ball with 3 unique cooking styles

It is actually the regular baso (meat ball) in three different cooking style. One is reguler, like we use to see and eat, but the other two are unique for this particular restaurant. The second type is like ball made of chunk of meet in ping pong ball size, and its chewy. While the third one is fried hallow meat ball the about 5 cm in diameter. If you ever tasted Baso Malang, it kinda taste like it with unique style.

You eat it the first and second type in the hot meet broth soup, while the third one by dipping it in hot spicy sauce or just put it all together in the soup. They don’t provide noodle to eat the meat ball with. Instead, they provide the traditional Makassar rice cake cooked in banana leaf. You eat them by put into the soup together will all the meat balls.

If you want to take it home with you, they have already made them packaged in nice packaging for you to be able to take it into the cabin of an airplane.

Order anything but oxtail soup

Dapoer Prambanan Restaurant, Purwokerto, Indonesia

Overall Rating: POOR

They said that this is the good restaurant for hangout with friend in Purwokerto. They are right, because the setting of the restaurant is like in the coffee shops with sofa and anything. But too bad they don’t provide the room with AC. Purwokerto is consider hot and humid and the room with AC in a restaurant (though we have to pay more) would highly appreciated.

This restaurant has vast variety of menu. From western like stake, Italian like pasta, to Indonesian cuisine with many choices. But in my humble opinion, it is exactly because of this too wide variety of menu they serve, the chef can not maintain the good taste to all of them. I felt like having some soup that night, so I order oxtail soup served with steam rice and spicy sauce. But to my surprise, I could not taste anything in my soup, not until I asked the waiter to get me some table salt (and of course I only can taste the salt, no other unique taste). My friend who has the same order was also experience the same thing. It was a pity for the restaurant this size failed to serve their guests at their best. We also order the Aceh Martabak… and I can assure you that it is very different to what I’ve known as Aceh Martabak. May be they shouldn’t name their menu to something that they’re not so familiar with. It just ruin the dinner experience for me and for their guests.

If you like fish, you should try this restaurant. They serve many kind of fish, both fresh and sea water fish, but they specialty is bandeng fish (milkfish). You can choose how your fish to be cooked; fried or BBQ. They serve them with three kind of sauces. Peanut, sweet spicy, and anion hot sauce. If you like spicy food, you should try all of them.

Oh… the size of the fish are huge, and 1 fish for a portion, so you better prepare you tummy empty before you eat here.
