I was staying in this hotel on a business trip and I was glad that the company I work for choose this hotel for me since it says that this is the best hotel in Semarang. But even the best hotel still has some glitches that I needed to address to its management. I answered the thank you email they sent me, like they always do to all guests after check in. In that email I shared the things that I thought that the hotel management needed to know. When I checked out, the hotel Executive Assistant Manager, Mr. Davidson Joseph spared some time to greet me at the lobby and promised that my input will be taking care seriously by the hotel.
But, still I also need to share with TripAdvisor. It has been two months, so I hope that they’ve already improved.
First glitch is the lighting system in the ball room. I gave the seminar in Ballroom 1 and before the seminar was begun, I asked the staff to set the lighting condition in a way that it would dim at the front side where the projector screen was and yet still bright on the audience side. But I found out that the lighting in this ball room could not work that way. Every lights are controlled by the master dimmer, and could not arranged separately. It was pity for the hotel this caliber to miss small thing in the design. I’ve been around and the ball rooms of the 5-star hotel usually are able to control each light bulb separately. I hope that somehow that Crown Plaza Hotel Semarang could change the setting because this is clearly a slight flaw in the design.
The second one is the quality of ambiance in the room. I was staying in the room 1244, and it was on the 12th floor. But I still could hear the car and motor bike passing by on the street down below as it was on the 3rd floor. I stayed in some other hotels even on the lower level from this one, but the sound quality were much better than in this room. I don’t know if it is just in the room 1244 or not, but in my best guess, it is the same for every room in this hotel and could be event worst on the lower level.
The last one is about Wi-Fi connection in the room. The signal is indeed very strong, but the bandwidth are terrible. I use the bit meter and I hardly even get higher than 200 kbps (kilo bit per second, as you may know that 1 byte is 8 bits), even at night. This is actually very very easy to correct. Please give your guests the experience to surf the net like never before. Later Mr. Joseph told me that the internet traffic that night was indeed very dense and I experienced the bottle neck connection for Wi-Fi.
Room Tip: Pick the room that has less noise of traffic down on the street.
